Do my best at this assignment and study for the exam at the expense of damaging my other grades (I need 70% or I won't pass internally and wont be allowed into the exam, meaning I may be studying for nothing)
Put my effort into the classes where I know I can sit the exam and even get a nice high grade at the expense of totally blowing one class, not studying for it's exam and just forking out the $1000 to take it again.

Put your effort into the classes where you have the best chance, then pay the 1000$ for credit recovery. Next semester take core classes that you know will be a walk in the park, so it will be easier for you to pour all of your focus into your excruciatingly hard class. You should also look into tutoring programs for your field.
